The newest version of their application claims to increase diversity in hiring through a proprietary algorithm that collects and analyzes candidate data. However, Eidos Logistics, one of Monarchy’s largest clients, recently compiled an analysis based on the utilization of the application and found that diversity in hiring at Eidos decreased when the application was used.

The learner enters the narrative as a new member of the corporate communications team tasked with investigating Eidos’s findings by gathering information from internal and external AI-powered stakeholders. The learner will need to navigate the equity, diversity, and inclusion challenges facing the firm and ultimately, use their findings to update an executive audience on this developing situation.

In this module, the learner takes on the role of a Consultant at Teramos Consulting, a public relations (PR) consulting firm. Here, they will work with the company’s newest client: Fizz Cola, a multinational beverage corporation dealing with a public relations crisis. 

The company has come under fire after a YouTube video featuring their product went viral. The video was of a young girl by the name of Ramona Montgomery. In it, she was performing a science fair project, demonstrating the damaging effects of carbonated beverages on teeth. The experiment showcased one of her baby teeth rotting in a petri dish filled with the Fizz Cola staple soft drink. The company’s initial response to this video only made matters worse, and the crisis has now escalated. They have reached out to Teramos for help managing this situation.

The learner takes on the role of an Internal Communications Coordinator at a medium-sized manufacturing firm called Bolt Plastics. The firm is about to fully automate one production line, requiring the dismissal of 43 employees. The CEO of the company has asked for the communications team’s support in announcing the news about this downsizing to the company.

The learner will need to carefully review the downsizing proposal and recommend both how the downsizing should be announced, and what information the announcement should include. To make this recommendation, the learner will need to understand the state of the company by communicating with various stakeholders, including the CEO herself, and a union representative who is threatening to expose the downsizing rumours to the media.

This has led to some resentment within the team.

It is up to the learner to unify the team and ensure that every member is contributing. To succeed, they will need to effectively display the traits and behaviours of inclusive leadership. Through various interactions with members of the development team, the learner is assessed on their understanding of key coding concepts including Data Types, Arithmetic, Logic Gates, Loop and Functions and works their way through 3 progressively difficult coding and debugging assignments.  The learner is also presented with an ethical challenge and must attribute code that is provided to them by one of their colleagues.
